Legends of Draxia: Corrupted Mana

Corrupted Mana is the first expansion to Mythica Gaming's flagship fantasy strategy board game, Legends of Draxia. This expansion brings aggressive player vs player action to Legends of Draxia through an arsenal of spells sure to cripple your opponents' victory point strategies.

In Corrupted Mana, Corrupted Mines produce the Lead Resource, which is used to purchase Corrupted Spells used during an opponent's turn to disrupt their actions, such as depleating their resources or increasing a Monster's Hit Points. The Dark Citadel increases the power of Corrupted Spells, making them even more disruptive. The expansion also adds two new characters, the Dread Knight and Warlock, both as corrupt as the mana they use.

The Corrupted Mana expansion's PvP play elements makes it much less predictable than playing the base game alone. Now it's not just about maximizing Victory Points on each turn until the game ends. It is essential to watch what other players are doing, and work to convince them to attack someone else. The core of the game remains the same; there is simply another layer of strategy and depth to master.

*The Corrupted Mana expansion requires the Legends of Draxia base game (sold separately) for play.

Creating Draxia
Notes from Jimmy Sanders, Lead Game Designer

The theme of Corrupted Mana was actually decided by the Kickstarter Community. Our high-tier backers for our Legends of Draxia campaign were given a vote on what theme they wanted for the first expansion, and the consensus was Corrupted Mana.

We decided on the core mechanics being direct player vs player interaction in order to broaden the player base. We always intended to add PvP into the game since many gamers, myself included, enjoy more aggressive games.

While working on the expansion, I very carefully considered how new mechanics and cards would effect the base game play. For example, in the base game the Undead Monsters in general and the Wraith specifically are statistically slightly overvalued. This is because I chose to use small whole numbers for ease of game play and end-game scoring. To help counterbalance this, the Enrage Monster Spell in this expansion (which adds HP to a Monster) is most effective on the Undead since they have resistance to Bows.

By creating Legends of Draxia in stages, we have built a game that can be played by both passive and aggressive players.

FAQs

How can I buy Corrupted Mana?

Legends of Draxia is available in the Mythica Gaming store.

Can I play Corrupted Mana without Legends of Draxia?

No, you will need the Legends of Draxia base game to play the Corrupted Mana expansion set. You can find Legends of Draxia in the Mythica Gaming store

Can game stores purchase Legends of Draxia at wholesale?

Yes! If you run a game store and want to carry Legends of Draxia, any of its expansions or other Mythica Gaming products, send us an email and we will happily discuss wholesale pricing. You can reach us at business@mythicagaming.com

When did the game come out?

The Legends of Draxia base game was first released in 2015. The Corrupted Mana expansion was released in 2018.

How many players does the game support?

The game is designed for 2 to 6 players. However, if you want to play more than 6 players, you can take two games, smash them together and play up to 10 people!

What's the age range?

For the base game, we recommend ages 10 and up. The Corrupted Mana expansion is more aggressive with more complex strategy, and is more appropriate for 12 and up. Though we know some 10 year olds who play it very competitively!

How long does it take to learn and play?

Corrupted Mana is best added to the Legends of Draxia base game after a few plays of the base game alone. Learning the additional rules for Corrupted Mana only takes 5 to 10 minutes. Mastering it can take months of repeated plays! An average game takes about 60 to 90 minutes depending on the number of players and their level of gaming experience. Playing the Corrupted Mana and Monsters of Nairu expansions together will ramp up the game play to 2+ hours.

Are there any other game expansions?

There are currently 2 expansions: Corrupted Mana, which adds PvP interactions, and Monsters of Nairu, which adds a semi-cooperative element. We are planning 2 more expansions which will add additional game play variation. All the expansions can be played singly with the base game, or together with other expansions and the base game.
